The 2021 New York Auto Show has been canceled. Similar to last year, organizers have postponed the annual spring event to August to avoid the worst of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. However, they say their hand has now been forced due to a growing number of hospital cases with the COVID-19 delta variant and increasingly stringent measures by state and local officials to curb its spread.
“As the custodians of the 121-year-old New York Auto Show, we are committed to providing a safe environment for all visitors, exhibitors, and the thousands of men and women who put the show together,” said Mark Schienberg, president of New York Car show. “In the last few weeks, and especially in the last few days, the circumstances have changed that make it more difficult to organize an event at the high level that we and our customers expect.”
At the moment it is unclear what this cancellation will mean for vehicles like the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe, which should debut at the show. Organizers say they “firmly believe” that the event will not return until 2022, but during the usual spring period.
