Thousands of charging stations for electric vehicles will be built across the country over the next decade. ChargerHelp !, founded in January 2020 by Kameale C. Terry and Evette Ellis, wants to make sure they keep going.
Terry came up with the idea for the on-demand EV charging station repair app while working at EV Connect, where she held various roles including Program Director and Customer Experience Manager. She noticed long waits to fix non-electrical problems at charging stations due to the industry practice of using electrical installers.
“When the stations went down, we really couldn’t find anyone on site, as most of the problems were communication problems, vandalism, firmware updates or the replacement of a part – all things that weren’t electric,” Terry said in an interview with TechCrunch earlier this year Year.
After Terry quit her job to help ChargerHelp! To start, she joined the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator where she developed a unique curriculum for EV network technicians. Shortly thereafter, Terry and Ellis were inducted into Elemental Excelerator’s startup incubator and signed contracts with major EV charging system providers such as EV Connect and SparkCharge.
The company takes a human resources development approach to hiring, meaning that only cohorts are hired. Workers get full training, earn two safety licenses, receive $ 30 an hour wages, and get shares in the startup, Terry said.
We are happy to announce that Kameale Terry is joining us TC sessions: Mobility 2021, a one-day virtual event that will take place on June 9th. We’ll have a lot to do with Terry, from developing her electric vehicle repair curriculum to what she sees in the future of the company.
