Jetpack Man back at LAX, pilots warned to fly with caution in LA

The jetpack man could be back and flying over Los Angeles.

On Wednesday evening, air traffic controllers at Los Angeles International Airport warned pilots to be careful after spotting a man in the sky.

A Boeing 747 pilot “reported seeing an object that resembled a jetpack,” the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement to USA TODAY. The pilot reported the jetpack about 15 miles east of the airport and was flying at an altitude of about 5,000 feet.

Except for the air traffic controllers, no flight crews or pilots said they saw anyone in a jetpack.

“We looked but didn’t see Iron Man,” replied a pilot in an air traffic record.

Last September, pilots at LAX reported that a man with a jetpack passed by in the sky.

“We just saw the guy in the jetpack go by,” an American Airlines pilot said in September.

One pilot put it best: “Only in LA”.

The FAA said it had seen an increase in unmanned aircraft sightings by pilots and citizens. The FAA receives 100 UAS reports every month. The agency also said it has not been able to validate any of the reports, but an investigation is ongoing.
