Last year’s viral hit Among Us is slated for release on PlayStation 4 & 5 later this year.
The PS4 / 5 version of Among Us, which was announced during the Sony State of Play press conference on Thursday, offers crossplay, online multiplayer and exclusive cosmetics that allow you to be your crewmate as Ratchet, the protagonist of Ratchet & Clank -Series from Sony, can dress up. The port was created in collaboration with Seattle-based PlayEveryware, which specializes in helping indie developers get their games published on the console.
Among Us, developed in Redmond, Washington, by indie studio Innersloth, was originally released for Steam and mobile in 2018. It’s a crime game where up to two in ten players are alien cheaters masquerading as crewmates who are out there to murder everyone else.
After two years of relative darkness, Among Us became popular due to a number of high profile Twitch streamers and became a fan hit in the summer of 2020.
As it turns out, a game of social manipulation is a great excuse for a virtual social occasion, and every streamer worth talking about has spent some time with us last year. Despite its technical debut in 2018, Among Us garnered the best mobile game and multiplayer mode at the 2020 Game Awards.

While Among Us’s popularity has waned in recent months, Innersloth released a new map, The Airship, on March 31st, which brings the game to life. It’s just popular now, not a runaway monster hit.
In response to his success, Innersloth has expanded its team from three to eight, including community director Victoria Tran and veteran indie programmer Adriel Wallick, who also leads the annual Train Jam development challenge. The team continues to work on Among Us and is expanding it by adding quality of life changes such as larger lobbies.
The PlayStation 4 & 5 version of Among Us joins the unreleased Xbox port that was announced just last month and a Switch version that came out in December.
